happiness of a former place or time; a sentimentality for the past, typically for a
period or place with happy personal associations
I love the seaside. The coastal towns of the UK, the arcades,
the fish and chip shops, the sounds, the sticky carpets, neon
signs, salty sea air with hints of tobacco, from Blackpool to
Whitley Bay, Brighton to Southport, Scarborough to
Morecambe Bay, Skegness to Southerness.
Each place holds fond memories, and every trip back does
not bring to mind tackiness, poverty or depression. But
comfort, nostalgia and happiness exploring the gift shops,
walking the aisles of arcades and indulging in the variety of
food and treats.
